One of the most prosperous actors in the Hindi film industry is Amitabh Bachchan. He continues to occupy the same spot in his fans’ hearts despite his lengthy career in the industry. Working in successful movies such as Sholay, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Don, Mard, Deewar, Silsila, Goodbye, Badla, Paa, Anand, Pink, and many more helped the actor become well-known. Nonetheless, Amitabh Bachchan experienced a financial crisis in the 1990s. And it was the late businessman Dhirubhai Ambani who gave the actor support and added positivity to his life.

When Amitabh Bachchan began to cry, recalling how Dhirubhai Ambani supported him when he was bankrupt
Amitabh Bachchan experienced a period of intense emotional distress when his personal bank account was reduced to ‘zero’ and his company, ABCL, was in debt. But the actor’s problems were solved and a helping hand was given by the late Dhirubhai Ambani. Remembering this, in 2017 Amitabh Bachchan paid a tribute to Dhirubhai Ambani at a function and related a story about how the latter intervened and showed him his kindness by offering assistance.
Bollywood Tehelka posted an old video in which Amitabh Bachchan was seen remembering the darkest time in his life. Speaking about the same subject, the renowned actor claimed that the government had even raided his home and that all of his avenues had been closed. Amitabh Bachchan clarified, saying that he was deeply in debt as a result of his company’s losses. To quote him, “There was a phase in my life when I went bankrupt. The company I had built suffered losses, I had debts, my personal bank balance was zero. All my avenues to earn were shut, and the government had raided my house.”
Amitabh Bachchan also recalled that Dhirubhai Ambani instructed his son, Anil Ambani, to give some money to his father after learning of the latter’s company’s losses and bankruptcy. One could quote Amitabh Bachchan as saying, “Isha bura waqt hai, isey kuch paise de do.”
In the same video, Amitabh Bachchan claimed that Dhirubhai Ambani’s kindness caused him to become emotional when Anil Ambani told him about the entire incident. Despite getting emotional, Amitabh Bachchan revealed that he declined Dhirubhai Ambani’s offer. The actor said that he was able to pay off all of his debts after he gradually began to get work. Giving further details, he said, “Whatever he had to offer, all my financial troubles would have been solved. I got emotional at his generosity but turned it down. God was kind and after some tough days, the tide changed. I started getting work and slowly I could repay all my debts.”
When Amitabh Bachchan was praised by Dhirubhai Ambani
Amitabh Bachchan also mentioned in the same video that he was invited to the Ambani family’s home for a special occasion later on. He ran into Dhirubhai Ambani at the party, who was having a conversation with some of the biggest names in business. According to Amitabh Bachchan, Dhirubhai asked him to sit with him, but the former did not feel comfortable in that position. Nevertheless, Dhirubhai persisted and got him to sit.
Amitabh Bachchan also became emotional when he recalled how Dhirubhai Ambani had complimented him in front of all the famous people. In discussing the same subject, the actor brought up Dhirubhai Ambani’s declaration that he respected the former. The actor recalled Dhirubhai Ambani’s gesture and disclosed that the former valued the way the actor recovered from one of the most trying times in his life. Amitabh Bachchan mentioned how Dhirubhai Ambani’s remarks affected him emotionally.
Amitabh Bachchan said, “When he saw me, he called me and asked me to sit with him. I felt a little awkward. I told him that I am comfortable there with my friends but he insisted and made me sit. Then, in front of all the stalwarts, he said…Ye ladka gir gaya tha, lekin apne bal pe phir khada ho gaya, main iski izzat karta hu. His words and generosity was more valuable to me than the sum he had offered to help me come out of that crisis. This was his character.”
