Mohammed Shami: Following a special request from the BCCI, Mohammed Shami has allegedly been nominated for the coveted Arjuna Award.
According to PTI, Mohammed Shami has been nominated for this year’s Arjuna Award following a great ODI World Cup campaign. According to PTI’s ministry sources, the BCCI has made a special request to include the senior cricketer, who did not previously appear on the list of the country’s second-highest sporting honor.
Meanwhile, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty of the men’s doubles badminton team have reportedly been chosen for the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award.
Shami was the leading wicket-taker in the 2023 World Cup, taking 24 wickets in seven matches, despite India losing in the final against Australia. He started the first four games on the bench, but when he got his turn, he responded to the occasion, taking 24 wickets at an average of just 5.26.
Meanwhile, 16 additional athletes have been nominated for the Arjuna Award, including Sushila Chanu and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar. The Dronacharya award has five nominees.Ganesh Prabhakaran, Mahavir Saini, Lalit Kumar, RB Ramesh, and Shivendra Singh are the five nominees. Meanwhile, there are three candidates for the Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award.
