Bihar politics: An old video of Nitish Kumar’s remarks against the BJP has resurfaced, saying ‘going with them is never acceptable to us’ as he returns to the NDA.
An old video showing Nitish Kumar’s remarks about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surfaced on Sunday, as the Janata Dal (United) president abandoned the state’s Mahagathbandhan to rejoin the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In the video, Nitish Kumar is seen saying, with his deputy and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav standing next to him: “Mar jana qubool hai, unke saath jana humko kabhi qubool nahi hai, ye acchi tarah samajh lijiye.” [rough translation: dying is acceptable, but going with them is never acceptable to us, realise this]
The video was reportedly taken in January 2023 and has surfaced at a time when Nitish Kumar has decided to rejoin the BJP. Nitish Kumar met with Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at Raj Bhavan in Patna and delivered his resignation letter.

Nitish Kumar’s reply came after BJP activists in Bihar were informed that there would be no realignment with the “unpopular” Nitish Kumar. “The CM has a tendency to oscillate like a pendulum.” But we will not be duped by him again,” Sanjay Jaiswal, the then-state unit chairman, stated.
The video was extensively shared on social media on Sunday morning, amid speculation that Nitish Kumar might do a huge flip-flop by leaving the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar and rejoining the NDA. A similar alliance shift to break the government occurred in 2022, when Nitish Kumar resigned to cut relations with the BJP and form an alliance with the RJD and Congress.
NITISH KUMAR RESIGNS
Nitish Kumar, Bihar’s chief minister, resigned on Sunday morning, according to officials. The governor accepted Nitish Kumar’s resignation and requested him to serve as caretaker chief minister until a new administration was formed, according to reports.
When Nitish Kumar visited the Raj Bhavan, he was joined by senior JD(U) minister Bijendra Yadav. The BJP is likely to submit a letter of support to the JD(U) and Nitish Kumar in order to establish a claim to the government. A new government with the support of the BJP is expected to be in place by the evening.
