The real reason behind Andhra Pradesh’s former captain Hanuman Vihari’s resignation was revealed more than a month after he resigned. He promised not to play cricket for Andhra Pradesh any more, blaming political pressure for his decision. Vihari’s disclosure comes after Andhra Pradesh’s close defeat by Madhya Pradesh in the 2024 Ranji Trophy quarterfinals.
On Monday, Hanuman Vihari shared an incident from his time as captain on Instagram, in which he was seen yelling at a player. But the player’s father was a politician, and this made him complain to him about it. The politician then pushed for Vihari to face disciplinary action from the Cricket Association.

Hanuma Vihari engaging in “sympathy games”: Prudhviraj, an Andhra teammate, refutes the claims
When Hanuma Vihari made her accusations and the batter chose to leave the state team, Andhra wicketkeeper-batter KN Prudhviraj retaliated. After a confrontation with a player, Vihari said in a lengthy statement on his Instagram that he was asked to step down as the team’s captain. By utilising his Instagram profile, Prudhviraj would disclose that he was the player in question and assert that Vihari’s accusations were wholly untrue.
He continued by saying that everyone on the teams is aware of what transpired and that Vihari was engaging in “sympathy games.”
“I am that guy you are searching in that comment box. Whatever you guys heard is absolute false, no one is higher than the game and my self-respect is much bigger than anything. Personal attacks and vulgar language is unacceptable in any platform. Everyone in the team knows what has happened that day. Play this sympathy games, however you want,” Prudhviraj wrote on his Instagram.
As Andhra’s captain against Bengal at the start of the season, Vihari shocked everyone by resigning from his position of leadership after just the first league match of the competition. Ricky Bhui took over as captain after that, with Vihari concentrating on his batting. The storyline becomes more complex after the campaign, though, as Vihari disclosed a contentious dispute with the Andhra State Cricket Association, claiming that they had deprived him of his captaincy under duress after he had a fight with a teammate.

Vihari disobeyed by announcing that he would be leaving the Andhra team immediately
“I was the captain in the first game against Bengal, during that game I shouted on the 17th player and he complained to his dad(who is a politician), his dad in return asked the Association to take action against me. Although, we chased 410 against last year’s finalists Bengal I was asked to resign from captaincy without any fault of mine,” Vihari wrote on his Instagram.
The last time Vihari donned the Indian jersey was during a Test match against England in 2022, following a turbulent career. He had considered moving to Madhya Pradesh ahead of the 2023–24 season, but the Andhra association rejected his request for a No-Objection Certificate, which forced him to grudgingly agree to return as captain for another season.
“I never made any personal remarks to the player, but the association felt that player was more significant than the left-hander who played for India in 16 Test matches, took Andhra to five straight knockouts, and put his body on the line last year. I was ashamed, but I only kept playing this season because I love my team and the game,” Vihari continued, The sad thing is that the association believes players are there because of them and that players must heed whatever they have to say. I’ve made the decision not to play for Andhra University, as I no longer respect myself. I adore the group. I adore how we’re developing with each passing season, but the association opposes our growth,” he said.
