Messi vs Haaland at FIFA awards
Messi, who won the prestigious title last year, has been selected after making a strong start for his new team, Inter Miami, in the Major League Soccer (MLS). The 36-year-old scored 16 Ligue 1 goals and contributed 16 assists in his final season in Paris before moving on to Inter Miami. Only three players have scored 100 goals in men’s international football, and Messi is one of them. Apart from Messi, the unique achievement in men’s football has also been accomplished by Ali Daei of Iran and Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal.
Last year, Messi and Argentina were FIFA World Cup champions. Messi isn’t the favorite to win the prestigious prize this year, though. Haaland, a prolific scorer for Man City, had a successful debut season in Manchester. Last season, the Norwegian sensation blasted six hat tricks in the Premier League. The Champions League champion scored 52 goals in 53 games during his treble-winning season with Man City.
