women’s Reservation bill
After an 11-hour debate, the Rajya Sabha unanimously approved the women’s reservation bill on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Lok Sabha approved the bill. The Opposition questioned the fact that the 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies will now become legislation and be put into effect following the census and delimitation. Only two AIMIM MPs opposed the bill in the Lok Sabha. The new Parliament building’s inaugural measure was passed with the passage of this one.
The new Parliament building’s first bill to be passed is this Women’s Reservation . Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar praised the MPs and referred to the Upper House’s approval of the bill as a historic accomplishment. “Historic accomplishment, congrats. The passing of the bill coincides with PM Modi’s birthday according to the Hindu calendar, which is also a coincidence, according to Dhankhar.
Prior to the vote, PM Modi discussed the measure in the Rajya Sabha and claimed that it would inspire newfound confidence in the nation’s citizens.
After the law passed the Rajya Sabha hurdle, PM Modi expressed his congratulations and referred to it as a “defining moment” in India’s history. “A turning point in the democratic history of our country! Congratulations to India’s 140 million people. I want to thank each and every Rajya Sabha Member who voted in favour of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Such unanimity of opinion is heartening, PM Modi tweeted.
The Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which was approved by Parliament, ushers in a period of improved representation and empowerment for Indian women. This is more than just a law; it is a celebration of all the women who have contributed to the development of our country. They have strengthened India with their tenacity and contributions. We are reminded of the tenacity, bravery, and unbreakable spirit of all the women in our country as we commemorate this day. This historic move represents a dedication to ensuring that their opinions be heard even more forcefully, according to PM Modi.
Nirmala Sitharaman discussed the measure on Thursday, saying it was long overdue. Sitharaman responded to the question of why the administration called a special session of Parliament by saying, “We have entered a new complex, a new structure for Parliament, new India. We want this Parliament to take on one of the best bills it is capable of handling. The Lok Sabha would have seats reserved for women under this measure. According to certain lawmakers, reservations ought to be granted in the Rajya Sabha as well. Reservations will simply not be possible given the indirect election process and the manner preferences are expressed during voting, according to Sitharaman.
In his intervention, Mallikarjun Kharge questioned the delay in the bill’s implementation and questioned why PM Modi couldn’t do it right away when he could outlaw notes over night. After the census and delimitation, Kharge questioned whether the bill will be put into effect. Union minister Arjun Ram Meghwal responded, “Modi hai toh mumkin hai…do not doubt.
