Xavi, the coach of Barcelona, is said to have yelled at Sergi Roberto during halftime of the team’s victory over Villarreal on Sunday.
The manager visited the dressing room at halftime and delivered some harsh criticism to Roberto for his poor performance at right-back.
After allowing Villarreal to tie the score before halftime after falling behind 2-0, Xavi was “visibly upset” by his team’s defending.
Roberto received criticism for “childish mistakes” and exposing Barca. To point out his mistakes and exhort him to be more cautious, Xavi even pulled out his whiteboard.
After Barcelona’s victory at La Ceramica, the coach also criticised his team’s defence.
It was our responsibility because the game was chaotic, he remarked. Despite the fact that Villarreal had a strong early start, we were in control at 2-0. But after that, the game was ours to lose, and we made too many concessions.
They can’t score like that from a corner, thus it’s our fault for their first goal. The second objective can be avoided. It’s a counterattack in the third.
“I believe we could have scored two or three more goals in the end. I’m happy with the second half in particular with the way we attacked, but our defence needs to get better.
Roberto has been given the armband this year, but he might soon return to the bench, especially if Barca is successful in signing Joao Cancelo this week.
