The firm stated on Friday that its streaming service, which is included in Prime subscriptions that cost $14.99 per month, will now have limited advertisements in its TV shows and movies.

Customers in the United States who do not want commercials will have to pay an additional $2.99 per month. According to the company’s announcement, live events and sports will continue to contain adverts in this tier.
Advertising on Amazon Prime Video
In the weeks preceding up to the advertising rollout, Prime members will receive an email with the option to sign up for the ad-free tier. “To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in early 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements,” the company said in a post Friday.
Amazon stated that it intends to have “significantly fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming providers. Prime Video will now compete with alternative streaming services such as Netflix. Discovery, Warner Bros. Max and Disney’s It’s Hulu and Disney+ that rely on advertising. Ad-supported options not only provide consumers with a cheaper option as the number of streaming apps expands, but also provide an extra money source.
Media corporations, in particular, have tried a number of strategies to make the streaming industry successful, ranging from advertising to password-sharing crackdowns to cost reducing.
Streaming colossus Late last year, Netflix shifted gears and began providing a lower-cost, ad-supported option. Netflix was cautious to accept advertising, but as subscriber growth stalled, the firm implemented the option to increase revenue.
In an effort to increase sign-ups for Amazon prime ad option, the firm recently deleted its cheapest, ad-free plan. According to company management, the economics of its ad plan are better than the basic plan, and advertising contributes to Netflix’s revenue and profit.
