Austin Butler will be shedding his “Elvis” reputation in order to play a gritty character in the upcoming film “The Bikeriders.”
Butler plays Benny, a devout member of the Vandals biker gang in 1960s Chicago, and co-stars with Tom Hardy and “Killing Eve” actress Jodie Comer.
Austin Butler plays a charismatic greaser who, at one point in the film’s first trailer, which was published on Thursday and feels like an update to “The Outsiders,” is seen seated at a bar wearing his leather jacket to signify his commitment to a biker gang.
He tells a gang looking for trouble at the pub, “You’d have to kill me to get this jacket off,” demonstrating his complete dedication.
Hardy, who portrays Johnny, the violent leader of the Vandals gang, is heard telling Butler that he “built this club from nothing” but that he can’t continue to manage it alone. “This is our family,” he continues.
The 1968 photo-book of the same name by Danny Lyon, which documents first-hand accounts from members of the Chicago Outlaws motorcycle gang during the 1960s counterculture movement, served as the basis for Jeff Nichols’ film “The Bikeriders,” which he also directed.
The video transitions to a moody Austin Butler holding court at the pool table in what appears to be a biker club while Kathy from Comer says, “I never felt more out of place in my whole life. It was the golden age of bikeriders. She continued, “That’s when I first saw him. “He stopped me in my tracks.”

Austin Butler
Austin Butler, the son of David Butler and Lori Anne (née Howell), an esthetician, was born on August 17, 1991 in Anaheim, California. When he was seven, the two got divorced. He shared a background actor role on Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide with his older sister Ashley (born in 1986). Matti Matinpoika Sillanpää and Liisa Jaakontytär Järvelä, his maternal great-great-grandparents, were Finnish immigrants from Ostrobothnia, Finland, who settled in Wisconsin.
American actor Austin Butler’ s television career began with appearances on the Disney Channel and Nickelodeon, followed by teen dramas like Life Unexpected (2010–2011) and Switched at Birth (2011–2012) on The CW. He became well-known for his roles in The Shannara Chronicles (2016–2017) and The Carrie Diaries (2013–2014).
In the 2018 revival of The Iceman Cometh on Broadway, Austin Butler made his stage debut. In the 2019 movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, directed by Quentin Tarantino, he plays Tex Watson. His performance of Elvis Presley in the musical biography Elvis, for which he won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in 2022, helped him gain more notoriety.
Tom Hardy
When he was 21 years old, Hardy won The Big Breakfast’s Find Me a Supermodel contest, landing him a brief contract with Models 1. After being cast as US Army Private John Janovec in the HBO-BBC miniseries Band of Brothers, Hardy left Drama Centre London in September 1998. In the 2001 combat picture Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, he made his big-screen debut. Together with his friend Edward Tracy (under the alias “Tommy No 1 + Eddie Too Tall”), Hardy also briefly worked as a rapper and hip-hop producer at this time; their 1999 mixtape Falling On Your Arse was never made public until 2018.
On December 1, “The Bikeriders” will have its theatrical debut.
