Somen Mishra, Dharma’s creative chief, slams ’12th Fail’ director Vidhu Vinod Chopra for failing to recognise writers and editors, and advises him to learn from his bosses, Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty.
Somen Mishra, Dharma’s creative director, has often made news for his uncensored and candid thoughts. The producer often uses the microblogging service X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram to give his thoughts on industry news. Somen has now taken it upon himself to educate all directors who fail to thank writers and other crew members for their efforts, and his first target is none other than the 12th Fail director, Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Somen Mishra slams Vidhu Vinod Chopra for failing to acknowledge authors
The film 12th Fail is one of the most successful in recent memory. The film is based on true events and highlights the struggle of an ambitious UPSC candidate and how he overcomes all obstacles to reach success. When asked about the film, Somen initially lauded it for its inspirational tale and congratulated the whole cast and crew for crafting such a masterpiece before taking a sneaky jab at Vidhu Vinod Chopra for failing to give appropriate recognition to its authors and editor. Somen went on to say: “As much as we all are praising the film+VVC, I hope he realises he is too chindi with credits, especially writing and editing. Need to stop hogging all credits. Has done in the past too. Acchi film banayee, director hai, that’s enough. You become bigger by giving the right credits.”
Somen Mishra requests that Vidhu Vinod Chopra learn from Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar
Rohit Shetty recently attended a press conference to promote his next series, Indian Police Force, in which he gave the series’ writers and other crew members full credit. Somen Mishra mocked Vidhu Vinod Chopra and challenged him to learn something from Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar while sharing the video footage. He went on to say, “Be like Rohit Shetty. Be like my boss, KJ. Always acknowledge your writers. Stop hogging all credits. Some directors have a terrible habit of forgetting their writers. Don’t be a d–k. A film which released on ott recently and is getting lot of love, nobody knows who has written it or the book on which it is based. Because the director remembers only him doing everything in all his interviews.”
The narrative of 12th Fail is appealing to audiences because it is innocent and realistic
On October 27, 2023, the film 12th Fail was released in cinemas to positive reviews. However, since it conflicted with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, its box office haul was not stellar. Following its OTT release, the film received widespread acclaim, and its box office earnings skyrocketed. The film has already grossed more than 70 crores globally.
The film 12th Pass is based on Anurag Pathak’s novel of the same name. It depicts the lives of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and his wife, IRS official Shraddha Joshi, who are played by Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankr, respectively. The movie is now accessible on Disney + Hotstar.
