Testing revealed bacteria in Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution and LightEyez MSM Eye Drops, both of which contain the illegally marketed ingredient MSM.
After testing found samples were tainted with microorganisms, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising customers not to purchase or use two brands of eye drops: Dr. Berne’s MSM Drops 5% Solution and LightEyez MSM Eye Drops.
While LightEyez drops tested positive for four distinct types of bacteria, Dr. Berne’s drops also tested positive for fungi.
Contaminated eye drops can cause life-threatening infections that can eventually result in vision loss, eye loss, or even death. According to the FDA, it has not yet been made aware of any instances of harm brought on by Dr. Berne’s or LightEyez drops.
After being contacted by the FDA, Dr. Berne’s Whole Health Products verbally agreed to recall the eye drops, the FDA said in a statement. Limited by LightEyez
More than 80 illnesses were recorded in March as a result of tainted eye drops sold by EzriCare and Delsam Pharma, which also caused four fatalities, 14 cases of vision loss, and four eye losses.
