The best-selling e-cigarette in the United States, Vuse Alto, is now allowed for sale, according to federal health officials. The judgment was reached on Thursday by the Food and Drug Administration, permitting Reynolds American to continue selling its reusable e-cigarette on the market for years to come
Sales of Vuse Alto, the top-selling e-cigarette in the United States, were approved by federal health officials on Thursday, enabling producer Reynolds American to maintain the vaping brand’s presence on the market for an extended period of time.
Only a few tobacco-flavored variants of the reusable device—which uses cartridges loaded with liquid nicotine—are covered under the Food and Drug Administration’s ruling. Reynold’s application for its more well-liked menthol flavor was previously denied by the FDA, but the business is contesting that ruling in court.

The FDA authorized Njoy, a competitor, to produce the first menthol-flavored e-cigarette last month. The tobacco corporation Altria, which also sells Marlboro cigarettes, owns the vaping brand, which is not very popular.
The FDA emphasized that individuals who do not smoke should not use Vuse or any other e-cigarettes, and that Thursday’s news is not an endorsement or approval. According to the FDA’s ruling, smokers who exclusively use Vuse can lower their exposure to harmful chemicals and carcinogens present in traditional tobacco.
The FDA released a statement saying, “All tobacco products are harmful and potentially addictive.” “People who do not currently use tobacco products, particularly those in their youth, ought to start.”
Reynolds, like other tobacco firms, derives the majority of its revenue from conventional cigarettes, such as Newports and Camels.
Retail data from Nielsen indicates that 40% of vaping sales in the United States last year came from Vuse. The majority of the company’s revenues are from menthol goods, which are still obtainable thanks to a court order, while Reynolds’s appeals the FDA’s unfavorable decision.
With fewer than 25% of retail sales, Juul Labs is now a distant second in the e-cigarette market. The business was compelled to significantly reduce its advertising and promotions after reaching settlements with families, states, and municipal governments who claimed that the brand’s small, covert e-cigarettes were the reason why kids became addicted to nicotine.
After years of delays, the FDA is completing a comprehensive regulatory investigation aimed at cleaning up the multibillion-dollar vaping sector.
