India vs. Nepal Live: IND skipper urges for a ‘lot of work’
Rohit Sharma: “Not really (happy with the knock), some nerves to start with but once I got my eye in, I wanted to get the team home. That was not intentional (the flick-sweep), I wanted to chip it over square leg but the bats these days are so good. When we came here we knew what our World Cup 15 is going to be like, the Asia Cup was not going to give us a better picture because it was only two games. But luckily we got to bat in the first game and bowl in this, so that made it a complete game for us. Still have a lot to work on. Lot of guys coming back from injuries and they need time to get back into the groove. Hardik and Ishan was very good in the last game to get us to that score. The bowling was okay today but the fielding was bad, we need to improve on that.”
Live coverage of India vs. Nepal: Gill on the mic
Shubman Gill: Quite disappointed with the way I got out day before yesterday. Important that I finished it off tonight with Rohit bhai, and we did it. He likes to take the bowlers on aerial, and I like to hit more boundaries than sixes, so we complement each other.
Live: Paudel reflects on the game and India’s Asia Cup run
Rohit Paudel: The openers played well for us; the middle order should have done better; we were 30 runs short and could have reached 260-270 if the middle order had performed well. In the previous 4-5 months, our lower order has done an excellent job and contributed significantly. The circumstances were quite difficult, but our bowlers bowled well despite the fact that the ball was not gripping.
Virat Kohli Presents Medal to Nepali Star Following Asia Cup Match, Then Laughs With Suryakumar Yadav
On Monday, the Indian cricket team achieved its first goal at the Asia Cup 2023, which was to qualify for the Super 4 stage. After its first game against Pakistan was rained off, India needed a convincing win against Nepal to regain confidence. Despite winning by ten wickets, India has a lot to think about. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bat first, but Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh took advantage of the Indian fielders, who lost three catches in the opening five overs. Shreyas Iyer lost a catch at slip, Virat Kohli dropped a sitter at short cover, and wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan let the ball go between his fingertips.
Later, members of the Indian cricket team applauded the Nepal cricketers. Aasif Sheikh, who struck a half-century, received special words of encouragement from Virat Kohli. Then he burst out laughing with Suryakumar Yadav. Cricket Nepal provided a video of the event, however, the audio was not completely audible.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill stayed undefeated as India defeated cricketing underdogs Nepal by 10 wickets in a rain-affected encounter on Monday to advance to the Asia Cup Super Four round. India won with 17 balls to spare in Pallekele, chasing a DLS (Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method) amended target of 145 in 23 overs following a rain delay. Rohit, on 74, and Gill, on 67, held their ground. After Aasif Sheikh top-scored with 58, Nepal were bowled out for 230.
The 50-over competition is intended to serve as a warm-up for the 2018 ODI World Cup in India, but weather has interfered, causing organizers to contemplate a site change for scheduled Colombo matches.
India’s first match against Pakistan, the first team to advance to the next round, was called off after only one innings. India was 17-0 in 2.1 overs in their second outing when severe rain pushed players from the field and completely covered the pitch.
Grounds crews worked feverishly to reopen the field for play. Rohit and Gill started off strong, hitting a flurry of boundaries to reach their respective half-centuries and sprint to the finish line. In his 59-ball innings, Rohit struck five sixes.
Nepal, who are still finding their way in international cricket after gaining ODI status in 2018, put up a great performance thanks to Sheikh’s fifty, which helped the team to a decent total.
Nepal lost their way following a strong start by Sheikh and Kushal Bhurtel (38) but the middle and lower orders fought back. Sompal Kami hit 48 before the innings was called off at 48.2 overs. Ravindra Jadeja, a spinner, and Mohammed Siraj, a fast bowler, both grabbed three wickets.
