IND Vs SL: Rohit is not the only cricketer to be surprised by Mumbai’s terrible air quality during this World Cup. England’s Joe Root also expressed his displeasure.
India skipper Rohit Sharma’s recent Instagram tale on Mumbai’s weather is guaranteed to raise eyebrows. The Indian team arrived in the city on Monday in preparation for their upcoming World Cup 2023 match against Sri Lanka on Thursday. From his flight, Rohit provided an overhead glimpse of Mumbai. As a dense smog enveloped the city, little was seen in the photo.
“Mumbai, yeh kya ho gaya (Mumbai, what’s happened)?” Rohit captioned the photo with a mask-wearing emoji.

The weather in Mumbai has been a source of concern in recent weeks. According to the CPCB, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai is 161, which falls into the’moderate’ category. The worst air quality was observed at Bandra Kurla Complex, where the AQI level reached 257, followed by Sion (218), Bandra East’s Kherwadi region (198) in Bandra East, and Navy Nagar in Colaba (189).
Monday’s AQI was no better. It was 143 on Monday morning, down from 152 on Sunday. An AQI grade of 0–50 is regarded as good, 51–100 is satisfactory, 101–200 is moderate, 201-300 is poor, and 301–400 is really poor. An AQI of 400 or above is considered serious. According to research, the AQI only recently entered the severe category in Mumbai’s Vile Parle, while Andheri, one of the city’s busiest areas, reported an AQI of 347 on October 17.
Rohit Sharma is not the only cricketer to be surprised by Mumbai’s terrible air quality during this World Cup. During England’s matches, Joe Root also grumbled about it. “I’ve never done anything like that before.” I’ve clearly played in hotter and possibly more humid situations. But you simply couldn’t catch your breath. It was as if you were eating air. “It was one-of-a-kind,” Root had stated.
What really worries me about the current Mumbai weather is that someone like Rohit, who has played all of his cricket here, is surprised by the conditions. The India skipper, on the other hand, would be praying that the weather and other factors have no bearing on India’s World Cup winning streak.
India has won six of six matches in this event and is the only team that is still unbeaten. Rohit has had a significant role in it. With 398 runs in six matches, he is India’s leading run scorer. He’s been around for a century and a half. His 87-run knock in the last match against England on a difficult Lucknow wicket was one of his best.
If India defeats Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium, they will become the first side to reach the semi-finals. Because Hardik Pandya is still out, India’s starting lineup is unlikely to change. Bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja have all played vital roles in helping India remain unbeaten in the last two matches. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will be looking to rebound from their defeat to Afghanistan.
