IPL 2024 auction: David Warner’s relationship with IPL franchise SRH soured when the Australian star was benched even after the season resumed in the middle of 2021 and was stripped of his captaincy.
IPL 2024 auction: Australian opener David Warner, formerly a standout player for Sunrisers Hyderabad who helped the team win the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 championship, has been blacklisted on social media by SRH. When Warner went to Instagram to congratulate his countryman Travis Head on joining his former IPL team in Dubai for ₹6.8 crore, he found that Sunrisers Hyderabad had blocked him.
After the Australian star was benched midway through the 2021 season and then again when play resumed, Warner’s relationship with the Indian Premier League team SRH soured. After that, Warner became a member of the Delhi Capitals in 2022, and the team has kept him on before the IPL 2024 auction.
Warner shared a screenshot of the Hyderabad team’s Instagram account along with the message, “Trying to repost @travishead34 post but blocked from @sunrisers Instagram.”
In addition to Travis Head, Sunrisers Hyderabad paid an incredible ₹20.50 crore to acquire Pat Cummins, the captain of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023 team. Before Kolkata Knight Riders paid ₹24.75 crore to get Mitchell Starc of Australia, this was a record fee.
Prior to the 2020 season, Cummins was paid ₹15.5 crore by KKR.It’s interesting to note that all three Australian players had a basic price of ₹2 crore. In all, 38 players have been sold in the current auction, with 10 teams selling 15 players from abroad. Spending ₹178.6 crore has been incurred on player acquisitions. Social media users are mocking the BCCI as the Indian Premier League 2024 gets begin in Dubai on December 19 and two Australian players were selected by teams for more than ₹20 crore apiece.
Details reveal that Mitchell Starc, the star bowler from Australia, went to Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹24.75 crore, making him the most expensive player ever traded.
