Born and raised in Mumbai, Johnny Lever grew up in the streets of the well-known slum, Dharavi. When Johnny talked about his early years, he said that he used to see murders in the neighbourhood on a daily basis. The neighbourhood was notorious for homicides, and corpses were frequently left out in the open by the side of the road. The slum’s inhabitants, Johnny said, were accustomed to seeing dead bodies and didn’t even blink an eye when they saw such brutality.

Johnny Lever disclosed in the same podcast that his father was an alcoholic who had even coerced his children into drinking. The comedian, who was 13 years old at the time, was so angry with his father that he walked to the railway track to commit suicide. However, as soon as he saw his three younger sisters’ faces, he changed his mind. As the only supporter in his family and the one who used to care for his sisters, Johnny had to stand by their side to keep them safe. He continued, saying, “13 saal ki umar mein main toh rail ki patri par jaan dene gaya tha. Main fed up ho gaya tha mere baap se. Main patri pe gaya, gaadi aa rahi saamne se, achanak meri teen behne mere saamne dikhai di ‘hamara kya hoga’ aur ye gaadi gayi.”

Johnny Lever was invited to offer his thoughts on Shah Rukh Khan after witnessing the megastar launch his career in front of him by podcast host Ranveer Allahbadia. According to Johnny Lever, SRK and he collaborated on Baazigar and Karan Arjun. At the time, Johnny Lever was more well-known and a greater star than SRK, but SRK had the drive to improve his areas of weakness, which enabled him to get to the level of stardom he currently enjoys.
