When Kangana Ranaut decided to pursue a profession in show business, she said in an interview that her father intended to shoot her.
Among Bollywood’s most gifted actresses is Kangana Ranaut. She has demonstrated her acting prowess in numerous motion pictures and even took home a National Award for it. When she made the decision to drop out of school and pursue an acting career, her father, however, did not encourage her. Even though her father had wished for her to continue her education, Kangana was adamant and made the decision to give it all up. She spoke candidly about the same subject and disclosed startling information in an interview.
Kangana Ranaut on her father’s response when she entered the performing arts
Kangana Ranaut talked candidly about beginning her acting career in Bollywood and her father’s response to it in an interview with Manoj Muntashir. She said that although her father had always supported her to aim high, he had a serious issue with her wanting to pursue a career in theater. Speaking of the same subject, Kangana stated, “He encouraged us to have big dreams, but it is a different story that when my dreams got too big, then he was the one who had the biggest problem. When I told my father that I don’t want to study and I want to do something different, perhaps theater, he said just one thing. He said that I am a normal person who lives in a society, if you want to do this, hamein tyagna padega. These were his exact words.”
According to Kangana Ranaut, her father vowed to give up on her
Kangana Ranaut said that her father had informed her that although he was her guardian and could provide guidance, if she chose to relocate to Bombay or Delhi, events would be beyond his control. The actress did, however, remember that her father told her that since she had already made up her mind, he would disown her. Kangana described her father as “her real hero,” stating that he educated her about life’s realities.
“He said that from whatever I know, I can guide you, because you are my daughter and I am your guardian. But if you want to do something by yourself, and you don’t want to study, and do theatre in Bombay and Delhi, it is beyond us. He said if you want to do this, then you do it on your own. Then we will give you up 100%. I am more than certain that if I had not taken control of my life, then I would have not made it this far.”
The father of Kangana Ranaut threatened to shoot her
Kangana went on to say that although she was recalling the event in a courteous manner, her father had spoken about it angrily. She also revealed that, despite their education, her family members are conservative and hold the view that women shouldn’t defy their “Laxman Rekha.” Kangana continued, saying, “He said it like how Rajput families say, ‘Get my rifle, I will shoot her’. I am saying this in very civil words. Our society is still patriarchal and in a kshatriya household, women are warned not to cross their Laxman rekha. That tradition is still there that if you cross the Laxman rekha, then you will be shot with a rifle.”
Kangana did reveal, nevertheless, that her father was taken aback by her success as he had not anticipated it. The actress added that her father is now really proud of her, adding that he was perplexed when she received a National Award. Kangana stated, “I got very successful and this confused him. Because he was expecting that this way of life wouldn’t work, so when I became successful, winning national awards and everything, that shocked him.”
