Ahead of the premiere of her movie Merry Christmas, in which she plays the opposite of South Indian superstar Vijay Sethupati, Katrina Kaif is getting ready. Tamil and Hindi versions of the Sriram Raghavan-directed movie will be available for release. During the film’s promotion, Katrina spoke with Film Companion and offered her opinions on a number of issues pertaining to Bollywood.

Of all the questions, Katrina Kaif’s daring answer on the subject of gender-based wage inequality in Bollywood generated headlines and drew widespread attention. The actress was questioned about how close Bollywood is to achieving wage equity. Katrina responded by telling Anupama Chopra that there is a lot to say about the pay disparity in Bollywood and that it’s a difficult subject.

Of all the questions, Katrina Kaif’s daring answer on the subject of gender-based wage inequality in Bollywood generated headlines and drew widespread attention. The actress was questioned about how close Bollywood is to achieving wage equity. Katrina responded by telling Anupama Chopra that there is a lot to say about the pay disparity in Bollywood and that it’s a difficult subject. She said: “I think that’s a that’s a really really tricky topic. Because I have heard it being said that ‘look at the top 10 openings of male-led films, and look at the top 10 openings of just female-led films’. And more often than not, there’s a big disparity in the numbers.”
Katrina Kaif clarified, nonetheless, that no one or any authority can determine which component is most crucial to a movie’s success. She acknowledged that salary equity in the film industry would be wonderful, but called it a “tough topic.” The audience applauded and jeered Katrina’s response, believing it to be appropriate. Says she, “This is a tricky debate. I mean, who is to decide which ingredient is the most important to make a dish? A film is a combination of many ingredients. I personally think that it would be incredible to see a little more equality.”
For a film, Katrina Kaif demands between Rs. 10 and Rs. 12 crores
Numerous sources claim that Katrina Kaif is among the highest-paid Bollywood actresses. For a single film, the actress allegedly asks between Rs. 10 and Rs. 12 crores. However, there were rumors in the media following the release of Tiger 3 that Katrina demanded between Rs. 15 and Rs. 21 crores to play “Zoya” again alongside Salman Khan. Nevertheless, neither the actress nor the producers addressed the rumors, and before long, they were lost to the passage of time.
