LaLiga and Turespaa: In a historic move, Indian fans would be able to immerse themselves in the heart of Spain’s rich culture.
Last week, the Spanish football league LaLiga launched a collaboration with the Tourism Office of the Spanish Embassy (Turespaa) and Instituto Cervantes to create cultural and human linkages between Spain and India through football. The cooperation aims to bring Indian fans closer to the richness of Spanish culture through new solutions that facilitate tourism connections, break down language barriers, and provide immersive football experiences. LaLiga, which is dedicated to leveraging the transformative power of the beautiful game, aspires to inspire change beyond sports by serving as a catalyst for meaningful relationships across football, business, social, and cultural spheres.
Turespaa Director Elisa Robles attended the occasion and expressed excitement about the program, emphasizing its potential to develop connections between Spain and India through football. She stressed football’s global language as a means of cultivating cultural understanding, giving Indian football supporters a chance to learn about Spanish culture.
“Turespaa is ecstatic to be a part of this fantastic initiative with it and the Instituto Cervantes.” Our collaboration aims to build a bridge between Spain and India by using football as a universal language to develop cultural understanding. This partnership not only enhances the experience for Indian football fans, but it also offers doors to discover the vibrant tapestry of Spanish culture, allowing Indian travelers to thoroughly explore and enjoy the wonderful destination that is Spain,” she said.
Following the departure of Jose Antonio Cacha, Aakriti Vohra is now in charge of the league’s Indian activities, and she was present as the league’s Global Network Delegate. Vohra stressed the transforming potential of football while sharing her delight about exhibiting the “cultural bridge” that La Liga represents.
“La Liga is not just a league; it’s a cultural bridge, and we are excited to once again showcase ‘The Power of Our Football’ as a catalyst for positive change and meaningful connections in the Indian subcontinent,” she said.
On the sidelines of the event, Vohra also addressed questions about its present operations in the country following the departure of Cachaza. “”Jose is a difficult person to replace. I’m working harder than ever before! LaLiga still considers India to be a key partner. I am currently in charge of it’s operations in India. “We also have a Dubai office that helps us,” added Vohra.
When asked if La Liga giants such as Barcelona and Real Madrid may visit for scouting purposes, Vohra emphasized La Liga’s ongoing pan-India effort through football schools. “Through LaLiga football schools, we have a pan-India program.” Kajol d’Souza, who plays for India and attended La Liga schools, is one of our national team players. She is now residing at the ESC Madrid Center.
“It is up to India to begin producing talent that can be scouted.” Our grassroots development programs must be improved. We’ve begun our journey. It is a lengthy procedure. “Once our grassroots grow, clubs will come and scout,” she explained.
