When Salman Khan caused Madhuri Dixit to deny working on Hum Saath Saath Hain

Madhuri revealed in a previous interview with Rediff.com that she had dated Salman in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, thus she didn’t want to play the bhabhi-dewar character with him. She disclosed that during a scene, Salman had caressed the feet of his stepmother, Sadhana (portrayed by Tabu). Madhuri was certain that they would not be liked if they played the part of devar-bhabhi.

Sooraj Barjatiya was excited to collaborate with Madhuri on Hum Saath Saath Hain, but the latter was unwilling to accept a supporting role following the triumph of Hum Apke Hain Kaun. Following extensive deliberation, Sooraj abandoned the notion of featuring Madhuri in the movie. According to quotes, the actress said, “There is a scene in the film where Salman touches Tabu’s feet and he hugs Tabu. So there has to be this bhabhi-devar feeling between the two. But if you put me in Tabu’s place and visualize Salman touching my feet, I think people would have hooted in the theatres. I think its right, because of HAHK, which was a love story between Salman and me.”
