The cost of a wedding cake is determined by its flavor, design, decorating, weight, and number of tiers. Wedding cakes typically cost between INR three and ten thousand, with prices reaching lakhs in extreme circumstances.
Debbie Wingham of Dubai created the world’s most expensive cake
Debbie Wingham and her crew in Dubai created the world’s most expensive cake. The cake was unique in that it was shaped like an Arab bride. Debbie’s crew handcrafted everything from the outfit to the flowers to the delicate pearl and diamonds on the cake. The Arab bridal cake stands 182 cm tall and weighs 120 kg, making it one of the world’s largest cakes.

The creation of a life-size Arab bridal cake
According to the Times of India, preparing this dessert took ten exhausting days. The dessert was created in Dubai’s Raffles Hotel with over 1,000 eggs and 20 kilos of chocolate. There are also 50 kgs of lacy confectionery decorations, edible 3-carat diamonds, and pearls on the cake. Each diamond ingested in the cake is said to be worth millions of dollars.

To keep its shape, the cake is sculpted with rice crispy and modeling chocolate. 20 kilos of Belgian chocolates were used to lend further reinforcement to the construction. The cake’s outside shape was created using 50 kg of cake fondant. The cake is covered with elaborate floral work composed of 5,000 handcrafted fondant flowers.

Where was the cake displayed?
The ‘Bride’ cake was displayed in the Dubai World Trade Center in 2019. Debbie created it as part of her bridal cake line to showcase the elegance of cake and diamonds. Over 200 people viewed the cake, and people from all over the world came to see it for four days straight. Debbie Wingham added about her million-dollar cake, “Diamonds have become the material of choice, and I’m constantly look at featuring them in a more inventive way, I have been a big fan of the Arabian culture and wanted to incorporate it in the design of the wedding cake. Raffles pastry chefs have always been extremely creative with their afternoon tea collection, so it was a natural synergy for us to work together on this project – a marriage made in heaven”.
