The qualifying percentile for the 2023 National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test for Postgraduates (NEET PG) has been lowered to zero by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for all categories. This indicates that everyone who took the NEET PG 2023 exam is now qualified to take part in the postgraduate medical counseling procedure.
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) made a statement in this respect that said, “..the recommendation for reduction in qualifying percentile for postgraduate courses for 2023 (NEET PG 2023) has been considered in the Ministry.”
NEET PG 2023 cut off : “Approval of competent authority is hereby conveyed for reduction of qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2023 to ‘Zero’ across all categories,” it continued.
The decision has been made to fill all of the clinical and non-clinical seats, and unlike prior years, no seats are left unfilled, according to Dr. Harish Gupta, an ex-member of the NMC and a newly elected member of the Delhi Medical Council (DMC).
Dr. Gupta continued, “Admission to all the postgraduate seats will be filled in accordance with the NEET PG counselling norms,” underlining that the students had already completed the demanding MBBS curriculum.
NEET PG 2023 cut off : The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has denounced the move to lower the cut-off to zero, while the counseling committee and administering organizations have welcomed it.
“The decision to lower the cut-off to 0 has made a mockery of the standard of medical education and the healthcare system in India,” FAIMA President Dr. Rohan Krishnan stated in a video statement. It will simply encourage exorbitant fees and corruption in private medical colleges.
The NEET PG cut-off percentile for students in the unreserved, PwD, and reserved categories was 50, 45, and 40, respectively.
NEET PG 2023 cut off : It’s interesting to note that in 2022, the 50th percentile NEET PG cut-off for candidates in the general category was lowered to the 35th percentile. For unreserved PwD candidates, the cut-off was lowered from the 45th to the 20th percentile, and for students who fall under the SC, ST, and OBC categories (including PwD of SC, ST, and OBC), the cut-off was lowered from the 40th to the 20th percentile.
The IMA encouraged the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare in a letter on September 13 to review the cut-off criteria so that more students might enroll in graduate school and lessen seat wastage.
