In Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2023 opener against Nepal, Babar Azam and Iftikhar Ahmed put up a record-breaking 214-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
In their opening match of the 2023 Asia Cup, Pakistan defeated Nepal by 238 runs on Wednesday, August 30 at the Multan Cricket Stadium. Iftikhar Ahmed (109* off 71) and Babar Azam (151 off 131) both scored hundreds for Pakistan in their first innings of play, which saw them post a commanding 342/6 total before dismissing Nepal’s batting order for 104 to seal a convincing victory. The winning team’s standout bowling performance came from Shadab Khan, who recorded 4/27.
Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first, however their batting did not go as planned as they lost both of their openers early, with Fakhar Zaman being the first to go, reaching an individual score of 14. Imam-ul-Haq returned to the pavilion shortly after he contributed $5 on his own, losing his game and dropping Pakistan to 25/2. Then Pakistan lost two wickets again quickly following an 86-run partnership between Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman off 106 deliveries.

The 214-run collaboration between Babar Azam and Iftikhar began at that point. Babar batted cautiously before reaching his hundred and then unleashed his arsenal of strokes in the last over, setting a record-breaking partnership. Iftikhar, on the other hand, took up the role of the aggressor and gave the innings the much-needed boost.
Sompal Kami took two wickets for Nepal but also allowed 85 runs to be scored. Sandeep Lamichhane and Karan KC each contributed one wicket, while two more were taken through run outs. Sompal Kami (28) and Aarif Sheikh (26) did exhibit some resistance with the bat, but Pakistan proved to be a little too strong for Nepal in the end.In addition to Shadab Khan’s spell, Shaheen Shah Afridi took two wickets for 27 runs, Haris Rauf took two for 16, Mohammad Nawaz took one, and Naseem Shah took one.
Both Pakistan and Nepal’s upcoming games are against India. Nepal will face Rohit Sharma & Co. on September 4, while the Men in Green are scheduled to play India on September 2.
