City of York Council : At York’s official Remembrance Sunday service and parade, the Rt Hon. Lord Mayor of York, the Civic Party, and the City of York Council will pay their respects to fallen soldiers and ex-service personnel.
The parade will start at Clifford’s Tower on Sunday, November 12 and go past the Mansion House and the City War Memorial at 10:20 a.m. Leading the procession will be the Civic Party, the Rt Hon. Lord Mayor of York, Reverend Councillor Chris Cullwick, along with active military personnel from regiments throughout York, as well as dignitaries and representatives from neighborhood organizations.
The “Ode to the Fallen” will kick off the ceremony at 10:58 a.m., followed by the “Last Post” and a gun salute at 11 a.m. Prayers will then be held, and local organizations will lay wreaths under the direction of the Lord Mayor and the Lord Lieutenant, Mrs. Johanna Ropner. Music for the procession and service will be provided by the bands of the York Railway Institute, the Mercian Regiment, and the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.
The procession will next make its way back to St. Helen’s Square, where the Lord Mayor, members of the Civic Party, and attendees will salute it as it proceeds down Coney Street. In observance of this ceremony, the Mansion House flag will be lowered to half-mast.

On Sunday, November 12, from 10:10 to 12:30, the following roads will be closed as the parade moves through the area: Leeman Road, Eye of York, The Castle, Tower Street, Clifford Street, Nessgate, Spurriergate, Coney Street, St. Helen’s Square, Lendal, Museum Street, and Lendal Bridge.
Additionally, between 7:00 and 13:00, there won’t be any waiting on Coney Street, Leeman Road, Lendal, Spurriergate, or St. Helen’s Square. In addition to Castle Car Park being closed from 7:00 to 1400, Station Avenue will have lane closures from 10:00 to 12:00.
