Prior to the deadline of September 5th, Rohit Sharma discussed the competition for spots in India’s probable World Cup 2023 roster.
India are currently in a pre-tournament camp close to Bangalore where the Asia Cup team members are getting ready for the competition, which begins on August 30.
Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of the senior men’s selection committee, predicted that the World Cup roster would mainly mirror the Asia Cup roster during the press conference where the squad was unveiled.
Teams have until September 5 to submit their preliminary squads for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, and September 28 to submit their final roster, after which any changes require ICC permission.
The captain, Rohit Sharma, will have the challenging task of handling the players who won’t make the cut as the announcement draws near.
There will be players who are left out while choosing the best lineup for a variety of reasons, and Rahul Dravid and I have done our best to justify their exclusion to the players, according to Rohit Sharma.
“We have made an effort to get in touch with the players following every selection and playing XI announcement. We sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with them to explain our decision.
Rohit, who failed to make the cut in 2011 and had to watch India win the World Cup from the sidelines, may be the only person who truly understands the anguish of missing out on a home World Cup.
The 36-year-old talked openly about his feelings at the moment and recalled how Yuvraj Singh’s advice helped him get over the setback.
“I try to put myself in their shoes occasionally. It was such a heartbreaking moment for me when I wasn’t selected in 2011, and I experienced what it’s like to be cut from a World Cup squad, Rohit added. “There is a reason why someone missed out, if they did. If you’re the unfortunate one, there’s nothing we can do.
“I was depressed and sitting in my room, unsure of what to do. Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh] called me to his room and took me out to dinner, in my memory. He described to me what it’s like to be left out.
The nicest thing is that you have so many years ahead of you, he informed me. You use this opportunity to put a lot of effort into improving your game and talents as we compete in the World Cup. There is no way that you won’t represent India or have the opportunity to participate in the World Cup.
“I went back to the drawing board, worked hard, and I made a comeback right after the World Cup. It has been terrific ever since. No one can tell me that it’s easier said than done because I am the one who has experienced this emotion. I have experienced being cut from a World Cup squad, so I understand how it feels.
Rohit Sharma’s fortunes changed for the better after that setback, and he has subsequently excelled for India in World Cups. With 330 runs in eight matches, he was India’s second-highest run scorer in 2015.
After finishing the tournament with 648 runs in nine matches, including five hundreds, he improved his performance in 2019.
After two semi-final exits in the previous two tournaments, Rohit is eager to build on those performances as captain and lead India farther.
“I was in good physical and mental form. I have the time to bring that back, and I want to. Trying to recall the morally correct things I was doing as a cricket player and a person prior to the 2019 World Cup. I want to go over that train of thought again.
