When Sharmin Segal stated that she was inspired by Meena Kumari’s ‘nothingness’ in ‘Pakeezah’ for ‘Heeramandi,’ Tajdar, the latter’s stepson, reacted.
Viewers tagged Sharmin Segal’s performance in Heeramandi as ‘nothingness’. The actress was relentlessly mocked for her role in her uncle Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first web series. When asked about the negativity, the actress responded that she was prepared and that it did not upset her because she focused solely on the positive aspects. She also stated that she attempted to take notes from Meena Kumari’s emptiness in the film Pakeezah. Tajdar, Meena Kumari’s husband and Kamal Amrohi’s son, has reacted to this.

When asked if he had watched Heeramandi, Tajdar said that he had only seen three episodes. He was asked if there were any similarities between Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi and his father’s film Pakeezah, which starred Meena Kumari. He stated that Pakeezah cannot be compared because neither Meena Kumar nor Kamal Amrohi will be born again. Tajdar stated, “Zameen aasman ka farak hai between Heeramandi and Pakeezah. Don’t compare the two. Nobody can make Pakeezah again. Neither Meena Kumari nor Kamal Amrohi can ever be born again.”
Tajdar, Kamal Amrohi’s son, recalled meeting Sanjay Leela Bhansali 15 Years Ago
When asked about it, Tajdar stated that he did not want to remark because Sanjay Leela Bhansali was a fan of his father. He stated that SLB tries to take shots in the same way as Kamal Amrohi did. He also recalled that 15 years ago, Bhansali visited Kamalistan’s studio and, out of respect, patted the ground where Kamal Amrohi used to sit. Tajdar explained that various people have different opinions:
“Once, he had come to Kamalistan Studio, he asked where my dad used to sit, where my dad walked. Out of great respect, he touched the ground where my dad sat. That was 15 years ago and after that, I never met him again.”
Tajdar discusses Sharmin Segal’s claim that Meena Kumari’s ‘nothingness’ in Pakeezah was her inspiration
In an interview with ETimes, Sharmin Segal revealed that Meena Kumari’s ‘nothingness’ in Pakeezah inspired her to create Heeramandi. Tajdar said that he did not know Sharmin and cannot relate to her allegation. When questioned why, he stated that it was not ‘nothingness’ from Meena Kumari’s perspective, since she was looking at him as ‘nothingness’, implying that there must have been some emotions behind that glance.
He said, “Meena Kumari saw me in that nothingness. She must be surely seeing something in that expression. Woh nothingness nahin thi, woh main tha.” When asked if Meena Kumari was fond of him, Tajdar said that the legendary actress loved him as his son, and he, too, respected her as his mother.
