In a recent interview, Shruti Sharma discussed her experience working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, including how the intimate scene in the series was hard on her body.
Shruti Sharma’s performance as ‘Saima’ in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar captured millions of hearts. Her simplicity, grace, and vocal abilities left an indelible impression on her fans. On the professional front, Shruti made her acting debut in 2019 with the television series Gathbandhan. She previously appeared as a competitor on the reality show India’s Next Superstars in 2018. Shruti later entered the film industry with Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya, a Telegu film released in 2019. Following that, she appeared in the Hindi film Pagglait, which was released in 2021, and worked on her first international production for Abu Dhabi Television.

In an interview with Entertainment Live, Shruti Sharma discussed her experience working with the famed director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In terms of Saima’s role, she is shown as a particular maid to ‘Mallikajaan’s (Manisha Koirala) daughter, ‘Alamzeb’. However, the series director did credit to each of the characters, and although though Shruti was portrayed as a maid, she was given adequate screen time. She was shown mesmerising listeners with her lovely voice, and her romantic side, as well as her sacrifice for her master, were prominently featured in the series.
Shruti discusses how a romantic scene in Heeramandi was hard for her
Shruti expressed her enthusiasm for working with Sanjay during the same conversation. Then she was asked about her amorous scene with Rajat Kaul, who played ‘Iqbal’ (Mallikajaan’s cart driver). In the moment, the two of them speak while becoming romantically entangled. However, the entire event was held in a horse barn, and they had to ride on a cart loaded with dry hay grass.
Shruti revealed that the intimate scene between her and Rajat Kaul was shot for an entire day. As a result of the filming, she had rashes on her body and her kajal was smudged with dust and filth. However, the scene has a special place in her heart. Shruti says, “There is a scene involving me and Iqbal in which we are romantic, meaning its a very romantic scene. That type of romance I had done for the first time on the screen. We were rolling and we were talking, and you know it was difficult choreography, we were on top of each other. I got rashes on my body because it was so harsh. I think we shot that scene for on whole day and when that scene got over, my kajal was smudged because there was dust and dirt. But the scene looks so beautiful.”

Shruti once supported Sanjay Leela Bhansali for revealing the secret affair between her and her on-screen lover
For those who are unaware, Shruti and Rajat were also seen in the series having a secret affair. In that scene, Shruti seduces her on-screen partner in the horse shed. However, when asked about it in an interview with Pinkvilla, Shruti defended Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s decision to keep such a scene. She had gone on to say, “If Sanjay sir has decided something, he is wise enough to choose his actors. I’m sure it is quite well thought out. You can’t question his vision. He has given history to Indian cinema. It is Sanjay Sir that we’re talking about.”
