On his Instagram story, Shubh posted a skewed map of India, which he later removed in response to criticism.
Before his scheduled performance in Mumbai from September 23–25 as part of the Cruise Control 4.0 event aboard the Cordelia Cruise, Canadian Punjabi musician Shubhneet Singh, better known by his stage name Shubh, is in the eye of a storm.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP’s youth wing, has angrily objected to the singer’s attendance, claiming that he supports Khalistan and has posted an inaccurate map of Kashmir online. The controversy started when the 26-year-old rapper posted a distorted map of India on his Instagram account, glaringly leaving out the Northeastern states, Punjab, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He captioned the picture with “Pray for Punjab,” which immediately drew ire. Later, Singh removed the map and replaced it with a statement that said merely “Pray for Punjab” and contained no image.
With singles like “Elevated,” “OG,” and “Cheaques,” he has become well-known in the music industry. Former Team India captain Virat Kohli has been seen dancing to his music in a popular video.
However, following the issue, Virat Kohli unfollowed the artist on Instagram along with cricketers KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. Shubh is getting ready to embark on his three-month-long “Still Rollin India Tour,” which will visit 12 significant Indian cities, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi, and Mumbai. BoAt, an electronics company, today announced on social media that it was ending its sponsorship of the program.
“At boAt, we are first and foremost a genuine Indian business, notwithstanding our tremendous dedication to the amazing music community. We decided to stop sponsoring the tour as a result when we learned of the comments made by the musician Shubh earlier this year, the firm said, referencing the singer’s earlier remarks. Shubh’s now-deleted article was published at the same time that Punjab Police were apprehending many of his supporters while they searched for Khalistani terrorist Amritpal Singh.
Additionally, the BJYM sent a memo to the Mumbai police commissioner requesting that Shubh be subjected to harsh punishment and that all of his appearances throughout the nation be canceled. They have also demanded that a FIR be filed against the artist.
Shubh, a follower of the late artist Sidhu Moosewala, broke into the public in 2021 with his hit “We Rollin.”
