Sl vs NED Highlights
At the Ekana Sports City in Lucknow on October 21, Sri Lanka under the leadership of Kusal Mendis earned their first victory in the ongoing ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 when they defeated the Netherlands by five wickets with 10 balls remaining. Prior to this, The Netherlands, led by captain Scott Edwards, batted first and reached their total of 262 runs in 49.5 overs. Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) and Logan van Beek (59) scored the most goals for the Dutch side.
Dilshan Madushanka and Kasun Rajitha each got four wickets for Sri Lanka, and Maheesh Theekshana picked up one. With a target of 263, Sri Lankan batters got off to a poor start before picking up the tempo. They did, however, lose three batters in rapid succession. A strong combination between Pathum Nissanka (54), Sadeera Samarawickrama (91*), and Charith Asalanka (44) helped Sri Lanka defeat The Netherlands by five wickets.
Sri Lanka is now ranked ninth with 2 points in the ICC points standings, moving up one spot. Despite defeating the Dutch team, they are still below it due to a difference in Net Run Rate (NRR). SL has only won one of their four games so far. The Dutch team defeated South Africa by 38 runs on October 17 in their previous game, causing the tournament’s second major shock. The Proteas were all out at 207 after they batted first and scoring 245/8 in 43 overs. After three games, the Netherlands has won one and lost two.
However, despite their best efforts, Sri Lanka has so far lost all 3 games. In their previous match, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by a margin of five wickets. Five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between the Netherlands and Sri Lanka have been played thus far, with the Dutch failing to defeat Sri Lanka even once. Sri Lanka won the first meeting between these sides in July 2023 by 128 runs.
