Laura Lynch, a founding member who passed away this past weekend, is being remembered by the Chicks this weekend.
The band members who were once known as The Dixie Chicks released a statement on Saturday via their official Instagram page. In the message, they expressed their “shock and saddened to learn” of Lynch’s passing and uploaded a video of her singing and performing with the band.
We will always remember the times we spent together as a group, sharing laughs, music, and adventures. Laura shone like a torch…”Her contagious enthusiasm and hilarious antics ignited the early days of our band,” the article went on to say.

Laura was a key figure in the band’s early success; she also had a natural talent for design and a deep affection for all things Texas. Her extraordinary skills catapulted us from corner busking to venues in Texas and the Midwest.
The present members of the Chicks—Emily Strayer, Martie Maguire, and Natalie Maines—were signed “Emily, Martie & Natalie” on the post.
A CNN station, KDBC, cites a police report that states Lynch was involved in a vehicle accident on Friday night in Hudspeth County, Texas. According to KDBC, Lynch was involved in a head-on collision when another car swerved into her lane. Near the village of Cornudas, some 60 miles east of El Paso, was where the accident happened. In 1989, the Dixie Chicks were formed by Strayer, Maguire, Lynch, and Robin Lynn Macy. After Macy departed the band in 1992, Lynch was succeeded as lead singer by Maines. Featuring Maines for the first time on their 1998 fourth album “Wide Open Spaces,” the band finally achieved mainstream success.
Laura Lynch
What on Earth is hosted by Laura Lynch, a journalist who has won several awards. She has reported from all around the globe and all throughout Canada during her career. She covered the Canadian Supreme Court in the 1990s, when it made history with decisions that established new standards for the Charter of Rights. Laura covered a wide range of topics for Parliament Hill, including abortion, gun regulation, and international commerce.
During and after the September 11, 2001 attacks, Laura was headquartered in Washington D.C. on an international level. During her nine years in London, she saw political upheaval and terrorist-motivated violent assaults. During her reporting career, Laura covered events in Pakistan (where Benazir Bhutto was attacked and later killed), Israel (during the war with Lebanon and its continuing dispute with the Palestinians), Saudi Arabia (where she was detained), Syria (during the country’s descent into civil war), and Africa (when western journalists were barred from Zimbabwe) undercover.
It would be impossible to include all of the countries and wars from which she reported.
