All about TikTok ban in the US
Under laws signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2023, TikTok would not be allowed to operate in the United States if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, did not sell the app by January 19, 2024. TikTok would be blocked in the US and app shops and internet hosting companies will be prohibited from providing the platform if ByteDance does not comply. Although a number of reports suggest that the justices are inclined to uphold the relevant federal statute, the Supreme Court still has the power to block the prohibition.
Recently, Trump has shown interest in “saving” TikTok himself, urging the Supreme Court to temporarily halt the ban. Last week, the Court heard arguments with the platform, which argued that the ban would violate Americans’ First Amendment rights.
