V Nivedita talks about a recent security breach in the Indian Parliament with Associate Editor Shishir Sinha, who was present at the time of Parliament Attack.

On Wednesday, two youngsters jumped from the visitor gallery to the hall, creating a smokescreen and shouting slogans, causing a severe security breach. It is no coincidence that a terrorist attack on Parliament occurred 22 years ago on December 13.

Nivedita talks Associate Editor Shishir Sinha, a witness to the incident, who discusses the breach during the parliamentary session’s Zero Hour, in this audio. Two people entered the Lok Sabha, unleashing yellow smoke and yelling anti-dictatorship and constitutional-protection slogans. Sinha describes the pandemonium and eventual arrest of four people, two from inside the Parliament and two from outside.

Calls to abolish authoritarianism and vows of patriotism were among the chants. The invaders attempted to approach the front row with 40-50 MPs there, including a few ministers on roster duty.

Sinha emphasizes the professional character of the incursion and shows concern about the situation, connecting comparisons to his experience during the September 11, 2001 terrorist assault. When asked about security measures, he mentions innovations such as barcode readers and holograms on passes, implying that security measures will most certainly be tightened in the aftermath of this attack. Pay attention. The complete story can be found here.

Sources say six people were involved in the Parliament Smoke Scare, five were arrested, and one was on the run

Six people were involved in the planning and execution of a significant security breach in Parliament on Wednesday, police sources told NDTV this evening, raising a torrent of concerns about the new building’s security procedures, which comprised at least four stages of screening. Sagar Sharma and D Manoranjan used yellow smoke canisters inside the Lok Sabha, while Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde used red and yellow canisters outside the Parliament. The fifth has been identified as Lalit Jha, whose Gurgaon residence the other five stayed at.

Vicky Sharma, also from Gurgaon, is the sixth person arrested.

According to preliminary investigations, the two who popped the smoke cans inside the Lok Sabha are from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (Sagar Sharma) and Mysuru, Karnataka (D Manoranjan). Amol Shinde from Maharashtra and Neelam Devi from Haryana were apprehended outside Parliament. Before beginning this frightening interruption, Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan were seated in the Lok Sabha’s visitors’ gallery and were handed access cards requested by BJP MP Pratap Sinha’s office.

Mr Sinha, the ruling party’s MP from Mysuru, has told NDTV that he will meet with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to clarify his views on the requests for passes that his office forwaded. According to PTI, the six have known each other for four years and devised this strategy together, and they even connoitered the Parliament complex as part of their planning. They all wanted to go into Parliament, but only two of them got passes: Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan. According to NDTV, there is now no proof that they were radicalized by any terror outfit.

The police have also revealed a few more data, including Sagar Sharma’s and D Manoranjan’s Aadhaar cards, and NDTV has learned Neelam Devi, 42, is a teacher preparing for the civil services. According to Neelam’s brother, she was an enthusiastic participant in the 2020 farmers’ protest against the government three farm legislation, but she is not affiliated with any political party.

Today’s invasion of Parliament comes 22 years after a terror attack on the ancient building murdered nine people, including eight security staff. It also comes after a Khalistani terrorist, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, threatened to stage an attack that would “shake the very foundations of Parliament.”

What Caused the Parliamentary Smoke Attack?

Sagar Sharma jumped out of the visitors’ gallery and into the Lok Sabha chamber on Wednesday afternoon, during a Zero Hour session. In spectacular images, he popped a yellow smoke canister and jumped from desk to desk in an attempt to reach the Lok Sabha Speaker’s Chair.

MPs overcame and captured him, and several of them pummeled him. Manoranjan, his accomplice, remained in the gallery and, like him, opened a smoke canister, probably to divert attention.

Shortly before the security panic inside Parliament, Neelam Devi and Amol Shinde outside exploded smoke canisters containing yellow and red smoke and chanted anti-dictatorship slogans. The Delhi Police’s anti-terror cell is questioning all of those arrested.

Mr Birla assured MPs who were understandably concerned about their safety following the incident that a thorough inquiry would be conducted. “All have been caught and the materials with them have been seized.”

The Lower House was later postponed till Thursday at 11 a.m.
