Donald Trump, a former president, claimed that he got advice from a variety of sources soon after the 2020 election, but that it was his choice to press the erroneous claim that he had won and attempt to reverse the results.
In an interview that aired on Sunday, Trump said, “It was my decision, but I listened to some others. Trump was charged with trying to rig the 2020 election results. In each case, he has entered a not guilty plea and said he did nothing wrong.
In his indictment of the former president, special counsel Jack Smith claims that Trump knew the election claims he was making were false after being informed that he had lost but still spread them to make them appear legitimate – all in the service of an alleged criminal conspiracy. In the interview with Kristen Welker, Trump reiterated his baseless allegation that the election was rigged as he pursues the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. “I was listening to different people, and when I added it all up, the election was rigged,” he said.

Trump said, You know who I listen to? Myself. I saw what happened,”.

The former president claimed he disregarded the advice of his lawyers, who warned him that if he didn’t obey them, he would lose the election. “You hire them, you’ve never met them, you get a reference, and either they turn out to be RINOs (Republicans in name only) or not very good. I didn’t respect them a lot of the time,” Trump stated. “But I did regard other people. Many others who claimed the election was manipulated had my regard.
He explored several options to challenge the election results after losing. Brad Raffensperger, Georgia’s secretary of state, and another official came under pressure from him to “recalculate” the results and “find” enough votes to give him the victory. Additionally, the Trump team attempted to rig seven battleground states with phony GOP electors.
The House select committee that looked into his actions leading up to the January 6, 2021 uprising claimed that the proof shows he actively worked to “transmit false Electoral College ballots to Congress and the National Archives” despite worries from his attorneys that doing so might be against the law.
The overwhelming and obvious conclusion drawn from the evidence is that former President Donald Trump, whom many others followed, was the primary cause of the events of January 6th. Without him, none of the January 6th events would have occurred, according to the committee’s final findings.
One of Smith’s four criminal cases against the former president is the FBI probe into election tampering. In Smith’s case, he is accused of four offenses, including obstruction of justice and conspiracy to defraud the US. In a broad Georgia indictment, Trump was also accused with leading a “criminal enterprise” to rig the 2020 election.
