Usha Uthup is one of the immensely loved Indian singers. Even at the age of 76 years, the legendary singer never misses a chance to swoon millions of hearts with her power-packed performances at an array of events. Courtesy of her melodious voice, she has also been awarded the third highest civilian award presented by the Government of India, the Padma Bhushan, in 2024. Recently, she made the headlines, with her captivating cover of Miley Cyrus’ hit song, Flowers. Now, Usha opened up about the same and also shared her wish to work with the pop sensation.

Usha Uthup discussed her latest popular cover of Miley Cyrus’s song “Flowers” in an interview with Hindustan Times. Usha was showered with love in return. Usha expressed her appreciation for the same by saying that she is utterly stunned by it. She also mentioned that her daughter Anjali Uthup had first exposed her to the song, and she had enjoyed it right away. Says she: “I am so thrilled and grateful to the people for loving my version as well. I just sang the song because my daughter Anjali introduced me to it randomly one day. When I heard it, I just loved the song so much. I’ve been singing it in all my shows and everybody loves it so much. I was so excited to know that my cover version is being appreciated like this. I didn’t even think that it would come on Instagram. Everybody who has written such marvelous things about my cover, thankyou so much! What truly made me happy is that people have actually said that they could relate to the song more because of my voice.”

For those who don’t know, Miley won a Grammy for the same song, Flowers. Conversely, Usha discussed the broad popularity of her rendition in a similar vein. She continued by pointing to her own rendition of the song, saying that although it is a breakup song, she still thought it was empowering for women. Usha highlighted once more, “Girls, boys, men, women, and even children are loving this song so much. It’s really fantastic, the success has made me feel so good. It’s such a beautiful song with fantastic lyrics, that’s what inspired me. It’s a new kind of breakup song, but as far as I am concerned, it’s the positivity of woman power. I always end it with a line, ‘I can’t do without your love’, because I must have the love of the audience.”
Usha says she wants to collaborate with Miley
Usha expressed her respect for Miley at the conclusion of the interview. The 76-year-old singer also expressed her joy at the pop phenomenon winning such a prestigious honour in the music industry. Usha thus stated that she wanted to collaborate with Miley and continued, saying, “I am so excited for Miley Cyrus for getting the Grammy for this song. I can’t wait for her to listen to the song and I hope she would like it. I am sure we will work together very soon.”

A while back, Usha Uthup was heard performing the hit song “Flowers” by pop singer Miley Cyrus in a video that went viral on social media. The video featured the Indian artist performing the song in her own unique style during a gathering at Trincas restaurant in Kolkata. She wore a black blouse with a crimson saree for the same event. She looked very stunning when she added her trademark large bindi and gajra-adorned haircut to her ensemble.
