The Indian women’s hockey team won the competition in 2016 and defeated Japan in the final to recover the championship in Ranchi last year.
The People’s Republic of China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Malaysia, and Thailand are the six teams vying for the title in this year’s Asian hockey championships.
The top four teams advance to the semi-finals after each team competes against every other team in a round-robin fashion during the group round.
India will first play Malaysia on November 11 before playing Korea the following day.
The top-ranked women’s hockey team in the competition is China, which won gold at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou. India is rated ninth. Thailand is rated 29th, Malaysia is ranked 23rd, South Korea is ranked 15th, and Japan is ranked 11th.
South Korea is the most successful team in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy, having won three titles. Japan has won twice, just like India.
