Emraan Hashmi underwent a significant physical makeover to prepare for Milan Luthria’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai.’
Emraan Hashmi is a highly gifted and dedicated actor in Bollywood. Since his debut in the early 2000s, the actor has thrilled audiences with his diverse portrayals. Emraan has always spoken openly about his extra efforts to better portray his characters. He recently disclosed one of his hard preparations for his iconic film, Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai.
SRK motivated Emraan Hashmi to increase his physical conditioning for “Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai”
Emraan Hashmi gave an interview for Bollywood Bubble’s show, Brunch with Bubble. He claimed that when he first started performing, he didn’t pay much attention to his food. The actor stated that at the time, little consideration was given to an actor’s physique or health. When he signed on to Milan Luthria’s film Once Upon A Time With Mumbaai, he began to take care to his physical appearance. The filmmaker instructed him to get in shape and appear smart for his role as ‘Shoaib’ in the film. He is quoted as saying, “I don’t think I was there in the beginning. I think I started paying attention to it when my director told me for the first time that I had to get into a certain physical form, which no other director had told me before. And that was Milan Luthria for ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai’, where I had to be toned down and sharp look.”
Emraan went on to say that no director has before requested him to focus on his physical makeover. Around that time, Om Shanti Om was released, and everyone praised Shah Rukh Khan’s toned physique in the film. Notably, his sculpted abs from the Dard-e-Disco song became the buzz of the town. As a result, Emraan was motivated by SRK and engaged a personal trainer to improve his body. In his own words,
“At that time there was a trend that started with SRK’s six-pack abs, and that became a sticking point with the publicity of a lot of actors. Everyone wanted six-pack abs, right? I think it was for the song in ‘Om Shanti Om’. So that became a thing, and everyone wanted to jump on that bandwagon.”
Emraan Hashmi stated that it is ‘difficult’ to adjust diet before each film
The actor explained that after the first time, the trend gained traction, and various filmmakers urged him to adjust his physique to fit the needs of his character, which was challenging for him. The Selfie actor revealed that he gained weight for his role in Shanghai, which was enjoyable because he ate a lot of brownies and pizza. However, over the next two months, he had to lose those extra pounds and concentrate on his abs for his film, Murder 2. According to Emraan, repeated weight changes can be hazardous for the body.
